New Mitsubishi Pajero Is Back What We Know So Far

The return of the Mitsubishi Pajero is getting closer, and the latest teaser image has given enthusiasts a much clearer look at what the iconic sport utility vehicle may become. After months of speculation and numerous sightings of heavily disguised prototypes, Mitsubishi has finally confirmed that the large vehicle seen testing around the world is indeed the next generation Pajero.

From what has been revealed so far, the new Pajero adopts Mitsubishi’s latest design direction while maintaining the rugged character that helped make the name famous. The front end appears modern and upscale, featuring a wide lighting signature that stretches almost the entire width of the vehicle. The headlights integrate into a sleek horizontal design, while the main lighting units remain positioned in a traditional location rather than using the split headlamp layout seen on some competitors.

The overall shape suggests Mitsubishi is aiming for a more premium appearance. A floating roof effect created by black pillars adds a contemporary touch, while conventional door handles maintain practicality. Decorative elements on the front fenders appear to serve both styling and aerodynamic purposes. Around the back, the taillights mirror the design language used at the front, creating a consistent look from every angle.

One of the biggest changes involves the rear door. Unlike previous generations, the new Pajero is expected to abandon the externally mounted spare tire that became one of the model’s signature features. Instead, the rear design looks cleaner and more modern, with the license plate positioned in the center of the tailgate.

Beneath the updated styling, the Pajero is expected to remain true to its off road roots. Mitsubishi has confirmed that the vehicle will use a high strength frame based on the latest Triton pickup truck architecture. Engineers have reportedly revised the suspension setup to deliver a smoother and more comfortable ride, helping the Pajero better compete with modern family oriented sport utility vehicles while retaining its capability away from paved roads.

Although Mitsubishi has not officially announced the complete powertrain lineup, industry expectations point toward a 2.4 liter turbo diesel engine producing 201 horsepower and 470 Newton meters of torque. The platform is also capable of supporting electrified systems, opening the door for hybrid or other electrified variants in the future.

The official debut is expected during the third quarter of this year. Production will reportedly take place in Thailand alongside the Triton pickup truck. Mitsubishi has also revealed broader plans for the Pajero name, suggesting it could eventually expand into an entire family of vehicles that may include crossovers, pickups, and even vans.

For longtime fans, the return of the Pajero represents more than just a new model. It marks the comeback of one of Mitsubishi’s most recognizable names, now reimagined for a new generation of drivers while staying connected to its adventurous heritage.
