Jay Leno - 1915 LaBestioni Rusty Two (2)

Gary Wales stops by the garage to show Jay his new creation, the 1915 LaBestioni Rusty Two, that he was able to restore from an abandoned rusted out American LaFrance fire truck.

Every time Gary Wales gets his hands on an old, abandoned fire engine, he seems to be able to turn it into a beast — La Bestioni.

He takes the old, chain-driven engines, completely refurbishes them and turns them into unique, period-looking, oversided cars. When we profiled him before, it was bright yellow one. This time, it’s what Wales, of Woodland Hills, Calif., calls “The Rusty One.”

All told he’s done five of them and is now working on his sixth.

While the engine itself is plenty old — a 1917 American LaFrance from Elmira, N.Y. — he made the new body appear old, too, by giving it a brown patina. If you look closely at the hood, you can still see the outline of its old fire truck markings, however. He also restored the truck’s old six-cylinder, 14-liter motor.
