First BMW i3 Rolls Off the Production Line

The BMW i3 has officially entered full series production at BMW’s historic Munich plant, marking an important milestone for the company’s next generation of electric vehicles. After months of previews and concept showcases, the sedan is now rolling off the assembly line and heading toward customers around the world.

This is the first electric sedan in the 3 Series size class to be built in Munich, making it a major step in BMW’s transition toward an all electric future. The company says production will increase rapidly over the coming months as demand for the new i3 continues to grow.

The new i3 is based on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, which was designed specifically for future electric models. Along with improved technology and greater efficiency, the new production process has already helped reduce manufacturing costs by 10 percent at the Munich facility.

BMW also plans to expand production beyond Germany, with the standard wheelbase version expected to be built in Mexico starting in 2027. Even so, Munich remains the heart of the launch and the first home of this important electric sedan.

For BMW fans, this is more than another model entering production. It represents the beginning of a new chapter as one of the company’s most famous factories prepares to build only electric vehicles in the years ahead.
