Drag Racing – 670HP Mercedes-AMG GT by Weistec runs 10s – Video

The guys from Weistec have just released a video of one of their creations, supposedly setting a world record for Mercedes-AMG GT models worldwide in the quarter mile run. Their car did the sprint in 10.8 seconds at a trap speed of 126.25 mph or 203.26 km/h.

That’s supposed to be the fastest such run in the world done by one of the models built by Mercedes-Benz. That’s a tough claim to prove, but we’ll take their word for it, especially when it comes to stock cars that usually come in about half a second slower over the same distance.

To prove that this was no accident, the American tuner did consecutive passes on the Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, California, about two weeks ago. However, you should know a thing or two about the upgrades hidden under the hood.

The 4-liter twin-turbo V8 under there makes 503 HP and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque in the stock guise and it will do some impressive things thanks to that output that’s more than enough in GT-S guise.

The Weistec engineers unlocked the car’s full potential, though, thanks to some carefully laid out calculations. They wanted to keep the stock turbos for now, to see how much higher they can be pushed in the first place.

Using new air filters, VTA adapters, downpipes and mid-pipes, as well as a new suspension and engine calibration, they managed to take the power output up to 670 HP and 755 lb-ft (1,023 Nm) of torque, numbers that were enough to set this claimed record.

“We couldn’t be happier with our AMG GT-S’s performance at the track,” said Steve Atneyel, Director of Software Development for Weistec. “One of the most impressive aspects of this test was that these runs were done back to back on a day with high ambient temperatures and we didn’t have any issues. We are excited to see how much quicker this car will go once it is equipped with our turbocharger upgrade.”
