2027 Mitsubishi Pajero Returns With Serious Off-Road Gear

2027 Mitsubishi Pajero Returns With Serious Off-Road Gear

The Mitsubishi Pajero is officially back, and its unveiling in Tokyo, Japan, gave fans a much closer look at what Mitsubishi has planned for its legendary sport utility vehicle.

The all-new 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero returns with a bold, upright design that immediately separates it from the softer crossovers that dominate today’s market. Its boxy proportions, high ground clearance, strong wheel arches and distinctive lighting give it a proper off-road appearance while still looking modern enough to serve as Mitsubishi’s new flagship.

One of the most interesting vehicles displayed in Tokyo was a Pajero equipped with rugged off-road accessories. This version showed another side of the new sport utility vehicle, featuring a massive front protection bar, auxiliary driving lights, a snorkel, underbody protection and a large roof carrier. The setup transformed the Pajero into something that looked ready for an extended expedition rather than a trip through the city.

Underneath, the new Pajero uses a ladder-frame platform and Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system. The 4-wheel-drive system works together with Super All Wheel Control, while 7 selectable drive modes help the driver adapt the vehicle to different road and off-road conditions.

Power comes from a 2.4-liter turbocharged diesel engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine produces up to 480 Newton-meters of torque, giving the Pajero the low-speed pulling power expected from a serious off-road sport utility vehicle.

Mitsubishi has also moved the Pajero considerably upmarket inside. The 7-seat cabin combines modern digital displays with practical controls and a design that still feels appropriate for a rugged vehicle. Available technology includes large digital screens, a 3D Multi Around Monitor, a Yamaha premium sound system and an updated digital version of the Pajero’s traditional Multi Meter.

The Tokyo unveiling demonstrated that Mitsubishi is not simply bringing back an old name. The company appears determined to make the Pajero relevant again while preserving the capability and personality that made previous generations so popular. And judging by the rugged accessory-equipped model on display, Mitsubishi clearly has no intention of turning the Pajero into just another city-focused sport utility vehicle.
