2017 Mercedes AMG C63 DTM – Video

When the DTM AMG Mercedes C-Coupé – renamed in Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM in 2015 – rolled on the grid for its first DTM race it had a tough act to follow. After all, it was the successor of the most successful DTM vehicle in the history of the sport: in 156 races, the DTM AMG Mercedes C-Class gave the Stuttgart based manufacturer 85 wins.

And only after having been renamed, the new type really tied in with the successes of its predecessor. With Champion Pascal Wehrlein and the victory in the 2015 team championship, the C Coupé made its breakthrough. For the 2015 season, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM was subjected to face-lift. To do so, the racy and unique design of the production car was adopted for its DTM sister.

Among the most striking features are the dynamic design of the headlights and the typical ‘AMG Twin Blade Grill’ of the Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé. The work on the new DTM vehicle began in April 2015 but due to the regulations, engine, suspension, aerodynamics and control parts of the previous version had to be used unchanged. So, the new C 63 Coupé didn’t mean a competitive advantage compared to the other manufacturers involved in DTM, for the Mercedes-AMG DTM Team. Mercedes-Benz driver Gary Paffett was thrilled by the look of the 2016 version: “The new shape is really cool. I’m already looking forward to getting behind the wheel.“
