1,153 Horsepower Mercedes AMG GT Shocks Everyone

The next generation Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door is shaping up to be one of the boldest changes Mercedes has ever made to an AMG model. For years, AMG cars have been known for their loud V8 engines, aggressive personalities, and dramatic exhaust sounds. Now, Mercedes is taking a completely different direction by turning the GT 4 Door into a fully electric performance machine.

Even though many enthusiasts may miss the traditional V8 soundtrack, Mercedes clearly wants this new model to prove that electric performance can still feel emotional, exciting, and extremely fast. And based on the early details, the company is not holding back.

The design of the new GT 4 Door takes heavy inspiration from the wild AMG GT XX concept that Mercedes revealed earlier. The production model keeps the sleek roofline, futuristic front fascia, and wide stance that made the concept stand out. It still looks dramatic and low to the ground, but Mercedes also made practical adjustments to prepare it for real world driving.

One noticeable difference is the addition of a traditional rear window, something the concept car skipped entirely. The rear lighting setup has also been redesigned with a blacked out light strip stretching across the back of the vehicle. It gives the car a cleaner and more modern appearance that matches Mercedes’ latest electric lineup.

Aerodynamics were clearly one of the main priorities during development. Mercedes equipped the GT 4 Door with active aerodynamic systems that constantly adjust depending on speed and driving conditions. A deployable rear spoiler rises automatically at higher speeds to improve stability, while an extending rear diffuser helps airflow move more efficiently underneath the car.

Because of these upgrades, the GT 4 Door reportedly achieves a drag coefficient of just 0.22, which is extremely impressive for a high performance luxury sedan with this much power.

Inside the cabin, Mercedes is introducing a completely new digital layout focused on both luxury and technology. The dashboard features a large angled driver display flowing into a passenger screen, creating a futuristic cockpit feeling without looking overly complicated.

Physical controls have been reduced significantly, although Mercedes wisely kept the rotary AMG drive mode controls in the center console. Those controls give drivers a more tactile and satisfying experience compared to using touchscreens for everything.

The interior materials also appear to be a major step forward. Leather, exposed carbon fiber, brushed metal trim, and ambient lighting give the cabin an upscale atmosphere that feels worthy of a flagship AMG product. Mercedes also introduced a new panoramic glass roof system called Sky Control, which can switch between transparent and frosted modes instantly. Embedded lighting inside the glass even allows AMG logos to appear across the roof at night.

Rear seat passengers still will not have limousine levels of space because of the sloping roofline, but the GT 4 Door remains more practical than most performance coupes. Rear passengers receive climate controls and USB Type C charging ports, while the electric platform also allows Mercedes to include a front trunk for extra storage.

One of the coolest details is hidden inside that front trunk. Instead of placing the traditional AMG builder plaque on an engine cover, Mercedes moved it into the frunk area. Drivers can scan a QR code attached to the plaque to watch videos from the engineers and designers who helped develop the car.

Underneath the body is where things become truly insane.

Mercedes developed a completely new battery system for the GT 4 Door using advanced cooling technology that individually manages each battery cell. The smaller and thinner cell design allows for improved energy density, better efficiency, and stronger performance during repeated hard driving sessions.

Power comes from 3 axial flux electric motors. Two motors sit at the rear while another powers the front axle, creating a rear biased all wheel drive setup focused on performance driving.

Mercedes says the GT55 version will produce up to 805 horsepower and 1,328 pound feet of torque. That allows the car to sprint from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.4 seconds.

The even more powerful GT63 raises output to a staggering 1,153 horsepower and 1,475 pound feet of torque. According to Mercedes, it can launch from 0 to 60 miles per hour in only 2.0 seconds, placing it among the quickest production cars ever built.

Top speed for both models is electronically limited to 186 miles per hour.

Range figures are also impressive for a vehicle this powerful. Mercedes estimates up to 435 miles of driving range on the WLTP testing cycle. Charging technology is equally advanced, with support for ultra fast 600 kilowatt charging capable of adding more than 286 miles of range in only 10 minutes under ideal conditions.

Mercedes knows many AMG fans still love engine sound, so the company developed an artificial V8 inspired soundtrack for the car’s Sport Plus driving mode. Through the speakers, the GT 4 Door recreates the deep idle rumble and aggressive acceleration sounds people normally associate with traditional AMG models.

It may not fully replace the feeling of a real V8 engine, but it shows Mercedes understands that emotion still matters in the electric era.

Pricing has not been officially confirmed yet, but the new GT 4 Door will likely cost significantly more than the outgoing gasoline powered model. Deliveries are expected to begin sometime in late 2026.
